E. Mitchel Opremcak, MD

Dr. Opremcak is listed in The Best Doctors in America for his contribution to the subspecialty uveitis and retina.  He created the first educational CD-ROM on retinal disease and has written several textbooks and chapters including, Uveitis: A clinical Manual for Ocular Inflammation.  In addition, Dr. Opremcak is the section editor for the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s 2004-2005 Basic and Clinical Science Course: Intraocular Inflammation and Uveitis.

After earning an M.D. degree from The Ohio State University, Dr. Opremcak was an intern at Riverside Hospital and chief resident at The Ohio State University Department of Ophthalmology.  He was a clinical and research fellow in vitreoretinal diseases and uveitis at Harvard Medical School, where he also served as officer and instructor.

Dr. Opremcak has held clinical positions as physician and surgeon at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, The Ohio State University, Children’s, Doctors and Grant Hospitals in Columbus.

He held academic positions at OSU, where he was director of the Division of Ocular Research, director of Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Service and associate professor.  His research has been supported by numerous major grants and he is a frequently requested lecturer.  His major research finding and publications include new treatments for toxoplasmosis, branch retinal vein occlusion, central retinal vein occlusion, and laser treatments for retinal artery occlusions.
