E. Mitchel Opremcak, MD

e-mitchel-opremcak-md Dr. Opremcak is listed in The Best Doctors in America for his contribution to the subspecialties of uveitis and retina since 1992. After earning his medical degree at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Dr. Opremcak was an intern at Riverside Methodist Hospital and Chief Resident at The Ohio State University Department of Ophthalmology. He was a clinical and research fellow in vitreoretinal diseases and uveitis at Harvard Medical School where he also served as officer and instructor.

Dr. Opremcak has held clinical positions as physician and surgeon at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, The Ohio State University, Nationwide Children’s, Doctor’s and Grant Hospitals in Columbus Ohio. He is Board Certified in Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at The Ohio State University, Past-President of the Ohio Ophthalmology Society and one of the original founders of the Eye Center of Columbus. As a partner at The Retina Group, he specializes in the medical and surgical care of uveitis and retinal diseases.

Dr. Opremcak has authored many articles, chapters and textbooks including Uveitis: A Clinical Manual for Ocular Inflammation. In addition he has served as Editor and Chairman of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Basic and Clinical Science Course: Intraocular Inflammation and Uveitis. His research has been supported by many grants and is a frequently requested lecturer and visiting professor. His major research interests include new treatments for toxoplasmosis, branch and central retinal vein occlusions, and laser surgery for retinal artery occlusions.

Dr. Opremcak has received several honors including the Senior Achievement Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2006. He holds several patents for new surgical instruments and teaches residents and fellows at The Ohio State University Department of Ophthalmology.
